Elyon: Deliverer

Genesis 14:19-20
19 and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
Creator of heaven and earth. 20
And praise be to God Most High,
who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Elyon: God Most High---in the above Bible verse Melchizedek refers to God as Elyon. The thing that spoke to my heart in this verse is that Elyon delivers our enemies into our hands. The whole idea of deliverance is foreign to most - but we see, in the New Testament- that Jesus delivers many from demons and oppression, from mindsets and strongholds. He can deliver us from our demons- but the above verse has an interesting twist: Elyon promises to deliver our enemies into our hands!
What does that mean to me- sitting at my computer in 2012? WE are getting ready to start a fast....there should be sacrifice during this fast- as we draw closer to God. Cutting the world from our hearts is not an easy thing. Exposing our carnal roots is vivid and painful - but Elyon promises to deliver our enemies into our hands. God may not deliver you from the cancer that is in your body, but he will deliver you from the fear that over rides your senses. God may not rid you of negative people and hearts, but he will deliver the anger and resentment that threatens to take you out. He may not take away the temptations that face you: alcohol, smoking, drugs, books, media, - but Elyon can deliver the victory over temptation into your hands.
Call out to God Most High today - there is nothing above Him, nothing that controlled Him - ask that your enemies be delivered into your hands!
